the Life Prep program is a program that is from three organizations, the Victor School District, The Arc of Monroe and Nazareth College supported this program.
We decided it was something that was a need.
Individuals with developmental disabilities that receive special education services are eligible to receive special education services until they're 21 years old.
We thought about what would be very appropriate for individuals with developmental disabilities to help promote wellness and enrichment, and yoga was a great fit.
Kenny Taylor says not too many yoga classes that are modified for people with disabilities.
So I thought it would be a good opportunity.
I always like to do different poses.
Most of the time I modify mine.
I really like the people I got to know.
Really nice people.
You become attached to the people.
I've not just make it easier for you.
See?
You got it.
It's good.
I was excited at first because being an undergrad student here for three years, I would always see the life prep students around campus and I never got a chance to work with them before, so I was really excited to actually work with them and get to know them and see what they're like.
A lot of the students say that that's the highlight of their week is when they actually get to go work with the patients because they're studying hard.
It's a pretty intense and it's an intense program and they work really hard and it's really nice that they get that opportunity to really do what they want to do and to practice those skills early.
A lot of them are pretty talented with yoga, and it's it's good for me to see that they're really enjoying what they're doing.
And some of them just need a little bit of some encouragement.
And then it just amazes me that they're like, Yes, I can do it, and then they do it.
That's rewarding to see.
