♪♪♪ Rochester Special Hockey is a hockey program That is for the benefit of those who have disabilities.
We have kids in the program who have Down syndrome, who have developmental disabilities, who are on the autism spectrum.
We try to include everybody.
They learn how to be teammates.
They learn how to socialize.
There's teams throughout the world.
It really is an international opportunity for people with disabilities to become included.
Producer: What do you love about playing hockey?
- Probably the friendships and the memories.
All the friends I meet and just love the sport.
It's a good feeling and have people look up to me and try to be like a leader and everything.
I look forward to it every week.
My teammates are the funniest people to be around.
They're funny.
They're kind.
They're silly.
I feel like we can be ourselves on the ice.
I think by the end of the year, we just want to see our players have confidence and then have friendships so that they can bring that back to other areas of their life, like they've learned from confidence on the ice.
So they can bring that confidence into school and just be proud of who they are and be proud of what they're a part of.
My desire and my hope, my dream for all of them is that they realize that they are included, that they are a vital part of the Rochester Special hockey family and that they're a vital part of their community.
