Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- We've got no box of questions.
I'm going to delve into this little box of questions and I'm going to ask the group some stuff and I'm looking forward to some very witty anecdotes.
(group laughing) - No pressure.
- No pressure at all.
(bright upbeat music) What do you get asked most about when stopped on the street?
- Probably get asked most about the costume stuff and they're like, "Must be so amazing, "get to wear those costumes all the time."
And I always say like, "It definitely is, "except when we're in, like 30 degrees heat and Belgrade."
(Kate laughing) - I'm sorry to say this Tom, but I get asked, "When will Miss Scarlet get with the duke."
(Paul gasping) (group laughing) - I get asked, "That Kate Phillips can't be that nice, can she, and clever?
- What do you say?
- I say, "She is."
(group laughing) - And everyone is very surprised to hear that.
- I love this question.
What kind of prep do you do to get into character before a scene?
- Go and ask.
- It happens quite quickly these days 'cause I've been doing it for a while.
So I think pretty much as soon as I put the costume on, I'm probably there, and I walk out into fake Victorian London.
- Well, the bridge between you and Phelps is very small I would say.
So in a way it's- (group laughing) - It's getting smaller.
It's getting smaller by the second.
- In a decade, yeah.
(laughs) - [Tom] What's it like working on a long running series and returning to these characters each year as they change and grow?
- I've loved Ivy's progression.
It's a real luxury when you get a character that starts off quite small and then she starts to grow.
And it started with her education when you put the pen and taught me how to write.
And I love how she- - She couldn't write.
- No, no.
So in the first season we had this beautiful scene where Eliza teaches her to write.
- "Oh, that's lovely."
- And then she grew, and come into season five with an educated woman.
- [Tom] If you could take home one piece of your costume, what would it be?
- I tried to even steal waistcoats today.
- Did you?
- We did a really nice scene with new waistcoats and I was like, "I need these, "I think I'm gonna try and buy them."
- In this series there's a kind of like, a new look for Ivy, isn't it?
- Yeah.
- That's what you call it.
And there was a beautiful tweed jacket, a little tweed jacket, and I love that.
Just the minute I put on, I went, "That'd be lovely with the pair of jeans at home," so... (hands clap) (group laughing) - [Tom] What's your favorite set?
- I like the mortuary, but I mean that's- (group laughing) - [Kate] Are you bit funny?
Are you biased about that?
- Yeah.
- Quite a bit biased?
- No, 'cause it's my own kingdom, yeah.
- I've been there, that's nice.
- Lovely.
- We did a scene where one of the corpses, it was quite a long scene and he fell asleep.
- He did not.
- Yeah, and just started snoring.
- [Tim] Started snoring, yeah.
- Quite loud.
This poor guy just started, I mean properly like- (snoring) - Oh mate, everyone's a critic.
(group laughing) - Well guys, I think that calls us to a very nice little close.
- [Group] Aw!
- That's the end of the magic box.
- Thank you, Tom.
- Thank you, Tom.
- Thank you, Tom.
- Thank you, Tom.
- We love you, Tom.
- Yeah, my pleasure.
- We love you Tom.
- Thanks for watching, everybody.
(group chuckle) (bright upbeat music)
